Cats have been pets and domesticated for a very long time. Cats were believed to have been first domesticated in egypt 9,500 years ago!! Cats were first used to keep out vermin from the food storage. Cats were worshiped in egypt as gods and goddesses and were known for being hunters. The ancient inhabitants of egypt gave the death sentence to anyone that killed cats, and cats were mummified before being buried. Except for a short while in the middle ages when the cat was viewed by being associated with the devil, the cat became a popular household pet in the 18th century.
